Hello Hip Hop Heads and Horror Fans,
Today I will be reviewing DP The Unknown’s EP titled, “Gone Fishing“. I had the opportunity to see DP perform live at one of the Hope 4 the Homeless events. She was dope and had an energetic performance! The songs she performed were also very catchy and wavy! I started following her that same day on Instagram. I recently saw a post where she was promoting that she was dropping a new EP soon! I had to support given not only is she a female rapper and singer, but is also representing for my city of San Diego! I also believe she produces beats! I mean how much more talented can she be!
DP was kind enough to invite me the day of the release to a Listening Party at the beach that afternoon! She gathered her brother, closest friends and peers to celebrate the release of her EP. This was a dope experience that allowed us to vibe and listen to the project together! I admit I had never been to a listening party so I was excited for her to even think of me and invite me to something this intimate! Being at the beach fit perfectly with the theme, vibe and sound of the EP! From the beginning the Production has sounds and waves and water! DP is not only talented, but very down to earth human being!
The EP is short, but leaves a lasting impression. The EP consists of 6 tracks and running time of approximately 13 minutes. It definitely leaves you feening for more! You get catchy hooks to very deep lyrics that touch on deep messages from dealing with fake friends to finding one’s purpose, live life for yourself and other relatable topics. You get the hit in my opinion, “Yesterday“, which the melody of the hook reminds me of Sage the Gemini’s Gas Pedal! This track has that melodic flow that gets stuck in your head! The last track I’ll go over because you all have to listen to it for yourselves is, “Gone Fishing Forever“! This track is very introspective where DP raps about living in the present and having trust issues due to people not having her back. She also talks about today’s society, very deep song!
It has a very summer feel to it! You have a mix of songs you can just vibe to and chill to others that are really deep and make you think! The overall message I took from it is that we are all on the same boat and we should live life to the fullest because we only have one life to live! DP did her thing on this project! Very inspirational music! You can tell she worked hard and put her soul into this project to bless us with this great cohesive body of work! All the tracks flowed perfectly! I can’t wait to see what she brings next! She is very talented and representing for the ladies! Keep it up DP I see you going places! Keep believing in yourself and no one will be able to stop you! Go stream or buy her EP!
