Hello Hip Hop Heads and Horror Fans,

Today I will be reviewing YBN Cordae’s album titled, “The Lost Boy”. This album consists of 15 tracks. When I saw the long tracklist, I was like hopefully it is not filled with fillers. I became a fan of short projects. Especially now with this era of mass music consumption, albums dropping daily. Plus I got to admit it makes it easier to review an album when it is short lol. I was pleasantly surprised that all the tracks on this project are dope! We were blessed with 3 singles before the album was released. The first single was “Have Mercy” which is my song! The beat and hook go hard, got the song stuck in my head! The second single was “Bad Idea” ft. Chance the Rapper. This track is a positive motivational song about making it and seeing the positive side to life. The one that took the cake was the single that released a few days before the album dropped “RNP” ft. Anderson Paak. I watched the video on YouTube where they performed live on Jimmy Fallon and the chemistry they have together is out of this world. The song has a soulful funk upbeat vibe that just makes you want to vibe out to it! The other stand out tracks for me where “Thousand Words“, “Been Around“, “We Gon Make It“, “Way Back Home” and “Nightmares Are Real“. The whole album is fire tho!

I’ve been saying YBN Cordae is one to look out for and he proved me right! He has what it takes to become one of the greats from his generation. He definitely gives me hope that Hip Hop is in good hands! He is definitely carrying the torch for dope lyricism, conceptual album and true musicianship! Love the live instruments in some of the tracks. He also has a melodic flow and voice that makes it easy to listen to his tracks over and over. Also his singing voice is catchy. The features also complimented his album. He picked the right features on the right tracks that went with each rappers sound and style. He did not over do it or force it! His word play and double entendres are dope as fuck!. He also held his own on the songs where he features legends like Pusha T.

He is definitely proving he is here for the longevity of making real music that is relatable and timeless. You can tell he respects the craft of taking your time to make a complete body of work. All the tracks fit well together. I did not skip any tracks. I have seen some of his interviews that he has done on his promo run this past week and I loved how he planned the tracklist in a specific order to musically show his journey to find his path. The songs sequence fit the theme of being a “lost boy” from top to bottom.

YBN Cordae is the Prince of rap in my opinion! I saw great potential in him since I heard his J. Cole 1985 response, “Old N***as“. So far my instinct has been on point and this youngin’ is killin’ it! Can’t wait to see what he has in store next! Go support and stream or buy this album, definitely worth it! You get a mix of hype songs to conscious and introspective tracks! There is something for everyone in this album!

Thank you for reading my review. Hope you all enjoyed it! Until next time horror fiends and hip hop heads! While you’re at it follow my blog on social media @7octoberz and Facebook!
