Hello Hip Hop Heads and Horror Fans,

Today I am reviewing Russian Sci-Fi horror film, “Sputnik”. I had seen the trailer and some reviews went as far as to call it this generations “Alien”. Needless to say I had high expectations when I decided to watch this movie. I shouldn’t have, but I did lol. I was expecting a Space horror with gore and action! From the trailer I got a mix of Alien and Species vibes! This film is in Russian so FYI for those that don’t like reading subtitles lol. I am a fan of foreign films so that was okay with me. The film starts right off the bat with a group of astronauts out in a spaceship when they see a shadow of what appears to be a creature. Next thing you know they move to an empty grass field with a lot of fog as a man is on horseback sees a parachute and goes towards the site. It is the spacecraft that the astronauts were in that crashed and only one survivor is left.

It is a gory scene as the man on horseback sees one of the astronauts dead and helmet is broken with blood as if something exploded in his brain. Then the lone surviving astronaut walks towards the man and screams as you see his eyes are pitch black, like demon eyes! Then the scene moves to a new setting were Russian Psychologist Tatyana is being reviewed with the board for using risky methods to save a patient. A Soviet officer offers her a job to come with him to assist him with the lone survivor of the spacecraft and says she will find it interesting and needs her help.

This film is a bit of a slow burn, more of a drama than a horror movie. There is a few horror elements. To get straight to the point (spoilers ahead), the lone survivor is pretty much the host to this alien that is living inside him and only leaves his body at night. The alien injects his host with some chemical that puts him in sleep. The alien feeds on criminals that the Soviet officer feed him to keep it alive. The Soviet officers are trying to figure out how to detach the alien from the astronaut, because they want the alien as a weapon. The psychologist becomes friends with the astronaut and tries to help him escape and is willing to find a solution to remove the alien. I won’t give out the ending. I’ll just give you a hint it reminded me a bit of The Fly ending. It was an okay film, I was expecting action and gore. Instead it was more of a semi-depressing Sci-fi drama. If you’re into that then check it out!

Thank you for reading my movie review. Hope you all enjoyed it! Until next time horror fiends and hip hop heads!
