Hello Hip Hop Heads and Horror Fans,

Today I will be sharing an interview with a dope Producer I met on Instagram! I actually came across Pyrit when I started following one of my all time favorite lyricists aka the G.O.A.T Canibus on IG! I can’t remember if Pyrit began following me first or vice versa, but I found out he has worked with Canibus! Not only that, but he is a cool and humble dude. He was one of my first supporters when I started my blog, I appreciate you for that Pyrit! I really wanted to use my platform to shout him out and his work for those who might not know who he is. In the great words of Biggie “If you don’t know now you know!” Please read below to get to know more about Pyrit!

1. Please introduce yourself for those who might not know who you are?

Yo yo, I go by Pyrit. Often imitated, never duplicated. I’m a Hip Hop/Electronic producer, and artist from the Southside of Virginia. You probably know me from my work with Canibus, but I’ve done production and/or mixing/mastering/graphic design for the these artists/teams: IllGrind, Bronze Nazareth, JP Beats, Lost Children of Babylon, RBC Records, Chino XL, and others.

2. What’s your favorite scary movie? Why?

Used to be Halloween, but I think right now it’s VHS 1 & 2. People hate them for some reason lol, but the concept is very believable to someone who’s seen so much weird shit on the dark web like I have. 😂

3. What is your technique when Producing a beat as well as song writing? How do you get started or inspired?

How do you decide what to eat for dinner? You just get an urge. Researching and learning new techniques, along with music theory, inspires me every time. Secret tip for any Producers reading this. If you get beat-block, try looking up and replicating the chord progressions from your favorite songs. If you’re as bad a piano player as me lol, you’ll almost always get it wrong and end up with something unique and cool sounding.

4. Who is/are your favorite hip hop Producers of all time? Why?

I’m a fan of so many producers hah. All of the greats, of course. Pete Rock, Erick Sermon, RZA, Dre, Puff, Timbaland, Kanye, Havoc, but I got a lot of love for ‘newer’ producers from here, and overseas too. Kankick, Flume, Bushido, Fler – these are all names you should put in YouTube when you want some dope boombap to write to. Fast Life Beats, Superstar O, Gummy Beats all got a SICK new wave sound, as well.

5. Any specific Producers you look up to or are heavily influenced by?

Keith Flint

6. How did your journey producing beats and rapping get started? You look real young, it’s hard to pinpoint how long you’ve been doing this. If you can say when you got started in the music industry lol. Has it been a successful journey or struggles along the way? Please share.

Moved around a lot as a kid, and never really had a ‘stable’ environment, so music & reading kind of just let me escape. I’ve been rapping since I was 13, and producing since 14. Releasing music since before MySpace days hah. I think without struggles it’s impossible to appreciate the successes, though. They’re a part of the process. If you do it right, it will always be both. You just improve the quality of each.

7. Any favorite horror soundtracks or horror-core albums if any? Why?

JNyce – Vaults of Horror series. The beats are total flames.  🔥

8. What would you say your sound is in Hip Hop? What sub-genre would you categorize yourself in? Boombap, Soul hip hop etc?

The original title of Pyrit of The High Frequencies Vol. 4 was Post Hiphop. That’s the category I would put my ‘sound’ in. I feel like my music is the new hiphop, what it’s evolved into.

9. What kind of legacy do you want to leave behind either creatively or in your personal life?

As I often as I can, I put together backpacks with things like snacks/water/hygeine products and keep them in my truck to give to the next person I can tell needs it. If I were gone tomorrow, I’d like to be remembered as someone who gave everything he could and wanted nothing in return.

10. What sets you apart from your peers or competition?

It’s all in the mix. No-one can mix like me. Of this, I’m certain, but there’s some OGs that would vouch for that too.

11. Any advice or words of encouragement for anyone entering the creative arena from Producing to rapping?

Invest in yourself. Everyone says it, and then makes excuses to why they can’t. Don’t be that person.

12. What is your favorite hip hop album and song of all time? Why?

Favorite hip hop album of all time is Canibus – For Whom The Beat Tolls. It’s my favorite album because of Poet Laureate Infinity, but “Secrets Amongst Cosmonauts” is probably the most important song in rap ever! Check it out.

13. Favorite emcee or rapper? Why?

C’mon yo, you already know Canibus is the dopest emcee lol. Lyrics still matter. Big Pun, Sean Price, Styles P, Cassidy, Lupe Fiasco, J. Cole, all the greatest in their own right tho. 👑

14. What has been your greatest accomplishment as a Producer and rapper?

Meeting and forging friendships with some of the coolest people I’ve ever had the honor of working with. The love is always going to come before numbers or money.

15  What is next for Pyrit music? Any new projects you’re involved in that you can share?Either Producing or as a featured artist?

You can find new beats every Thursday at We have a really dope track coming out soon featuring soul/r&b artists Soultrie Music Group/OnKey Music, Canibus, and Myself titled “Press Rewind” too. Pyrit of The High Frequencies Vol. 7 is also on its way. Going to be a very dope year for music!

16. What is the significance of your Producer moniker Pyrit music?

Back in the day I lived in apartments and I used Backtrack Linux to hook the people around me up with bootleg wifi, sorta like the dude with the paid channel hook up or Master P with brick phones lol. Pyrit was a really sick software that allowed multiple machines to be used in tandem for the purpose of cracking WPA2. I was explaining to one of the homies what I was doing, and he said nah you the Pyrit. After that, it’s what everyone called me.

17. Any set goal or dream you would like to achieve as a Producer and emcee?

To put my mother, and grandparents in bigger houses lol and to not let my brothers down. If nothing else though, to teach and inspire others in the way that others have done for me. Pay it forward, you know?

18. Any emcees that you would love to work with in the near future?

I love collaborating with artists in general but it’s always the most rewarding to make something dope with new up & coming emcees. My lil homies got bars for real.  💯

19. You work with the GOAT Canibus how did that relationship begin? How has that journey been for you? If you can name songs you either Produced or are featured with Canibus to those who want to listen.

Back in late 2009 I was burglarizing a classified government facility and bumped into him doing the same thing. He explained he was there looking for Dr. Levinsons time equations. I was just there because I heard there was weed. We linked up.. It’s been a crazy ride yo. We became Audio Wizards then Time Travelled with Rip the Reptilyan, showed our Pen Game in Rome, got paid in Gold and MORE Token, then pressed Rewind and came back to post updates on my youtube page @PyritMusic.

20. Any platforms or people you would like to shout out?

The people I’ve met on Instagram have been cool as fuck. Shout out to them and a big THANK YOU to everyone that follows me or likes my posts. 🙇‍♂️🤝💯

Thank you Pyrit for your time and being open to do this interview! I truly appreciate you!!! Keep killin it out there musically! To my readers and supporters hope you all enjoyed reading this interview. Go give Pyrit a follow @PyritMusic to keep up on his latest projects! Until next time horror fiends and hip hop heads. Hello Hip Hop Heads and Horror Fans,

Today in honor of HipHopWeds upcoming 2nd Anniversary I will be writing a piece about this dope event and platform that occurs every Wednesday at the AC Lounge here in San Diego called, HipHopWeds! This dope event is managed by the humble and talented Kahlee! I first went to the first HipHopWeds event the end of last year for their De La Flow night that was hosted by the dope Emcee Karlo! De La Flow night is a quarterly event at HipHopWeds and also does other dates at different venues. It is a night where Spanish Rap is highlighted! So the emcees that performed that night rapped in Spanish, which I loved! I then began attending HipHopWeds on a regular basis this year once my Hip Hop Horror Blog started to take off and began being active in the San Diego Hip Hop scene!

This place has opened up doors not only for local rappers, but also Producers, DJ’s, Artists, Photographers and even bloggers like me! This platform extends to all four corners of San Diego (East, South, North and West). Any creative skill you can think of HipHopWeds has a niche for it! Kahlee has created a safe place for Hip Hop fans and supporters to attend every Wednesday and forget about the stresses of life for a few hours! It is like an extended family! Once you start going you start seeing the same people and you build friendships with them! It is a dope experience!

Kahlee should be proud of what he has accomplished along with his partners! He is contributing to the success of the San Diego Hip Hop scene! I truly admire Kahlee for being the humble dude he is! Also his contribution to the San Diego Hip Hop scene, putting this event together every week and being supportive since day one when I first began my blog! Also shout out to the residents at HipHopWeds: DJ Root, KillcRey, Parker Edison and Ethos One! All talented individuals as well and keep the show going!

HipHopWeds switches it up every week. Every week there is a different theme and the lineup matches that theme. The first Wednesday of the Month is “Waves“. In Kahlee’s words, “It’s a live show where we book different styles of HipHop from the lyrical, experimental and abstract to trap, turn up and even Gfunk!” The second Wednesday is the “Elbow Room“, it is a night filled with wrestling vibes with video games, 5 minute open mic and 10 minute producer spotlight. The third Wednesday is “Hip Hop House SD”. In Kahlee’s word, “Hiphop house SD is our flagship event with a more true school style of hip-hop from boom-bap and 90s style to the current, but with an emphasis on lyrics”. The fourth Wednesday is “Donuts” which is for Producers to show off their beats and usually a lineup of dope Producers, if your lucky they will allow you to freestyle over them! As you can see there is variety and all types of lanes or sub-genres of Hip Hop to accommodate everyones preference or taste!

HipHopWeds is one of the places and shows that keeps the San Diego Hip Hop alive and well! It has been 2 years since this has been around! Happy 2nd Anniversary to HipHopWeds to more years and more success! Also for their Anniversary their having their Inaugural “1904 Hip-Hop Festival” on Wednesday July 31, 2019! Don’t miss out it is going to be a legendary night with an amazing lineup! My fellow Spooky Gang fam will be performing among other dope artists that I’ve gotten to know or have seen perform live!

24. 1904fest_mainflyer

If you have never been to HipHopWeds, are a Hip Hop fan and reside or are visiting San Diego this is the place to be on Wednesday nights! For those that drink they also have a custom and exclusive drink menu! Go check it out and I promise you won’t regret it! It is a dope experience and on top of that most of the shows are free. The flyers posted for upcoming shows will let you know if specific shows for that night are charging!

Thank you for reading this piece. Hope you all enjoyed it! Until next time horror fiends and hip hop heads! While you’re at it follow my blog on social media @7octoberz and Facebook!

Hello Hip Hop Heads and Horror Fans,

Today I will be sharing an interview I did with none other than the artists behind my dope logo, the Bailey Brothaz! They are an artistic twin duo who made my vision come alive! It is dope to see twin brothers working creatively and running a successful business. As a twin myself I found it cool! They are very humble and offer great customer service. I hope one day to visit the UK and meet you guys personally to thank you! I asked them for a picture and their names, but they wanted to keep their identities a mystery to allow their work to speak for itself. I gotta respect that! Check out some of their dope artwork below. Without further a do please read the interview below to get to know a bit about the Bailey Brothaz!

1. Please introduce yourselves to those who might not know who you are. Also please mention what area you are based out of for people who may want to know.

Hey Gaby sure, we’re Artists and twin brothers from the UK and we run our own business called BaileyBrothaz.

2. How did you guys begin graphic designing? How long have you guys been doing this? When did you guys realize you had the talent to begin creating dope artwork?

Appreciate you saying that! Yeah, we were given a pencil and paper at a young age. We didn’t have much growing up and less distractions as now. So yeah, as kids we used to Graffiti the walls with all kinds of drawings and constantly draw everywhere we would go. Now we have honed our skills where we can finally make a living from it. It’s not perfected we’re still learning.

3. Please tell me a bit about your journey in graphic design and making digital art?

Sure, especially trying to make it as an artist, it’s a difficult career path. We knew we had a bit of talent, but we were constantly being told by people around us like Teachers etc that we would never succeed and that it’s too flooded with talented people all trying to make it big so do this boring shit instead. But being professional artists was our dream! It’s our passion so we never gave up! If anything it made us even more determined to succeed. We would get part time jobs so that we could pay bills, but still keep busy trying to make our artistic skills into a business. Social media definitely helped bring in business our way because we could show a gallery of all our artwork online to people who needed Album cover art, business logos, t-shirt designs etc.

4. How and why did you guys fall in love with hip hop and the culture?

At the age of about 10 -11 we heard Hip Hop albums like The Chronic, Public Enemy, NWA and we were instantly hooked! The way they dressed and the way they acted resonated when you’re a kid. Also they didn’t dress like pop superstars they let the words and the stories they told get you hooked. Then listening to artists like 2pac, Snoop and The Dogg Pound it all influenced our artwork.

5. What is your favorite hip hop album and song of all time?

That’s a hard question probably Snoop’s Doggystyle album it has all the legends on there. We don’t have a favorite song we can’t jus pick one we wouldn’t agree on one anyway haha sorry!

6. What’s your favorite scary movie? Why?

There’s a few, probably John Carpenter’s “The Thing” a bunch of dudes not trusting each other’ who’s infected with this alien… thing haha we saw that real young spooked the shit out of us.

7. What’s you favorite graphic design you guys have created? Why?

Again I would pick one and then my brother would choose another, so it would have to be one we have worked on together. Our zombie mural we did a year ago for a friend or maybe our BloodznCripz design that was all over Myspace over 10 years ago, which got us a lot of recognition.

8. Bailey Brothaz, what the significance or meaning behind your brand name?

We wanted Bailey BrothERS, but it was already taken on google haha, so we went with the Hip Hop influence and wrote it as BrothAZ. Our logo is basically us, two Bs mirrored as we’re identical twin brothers.

9. Who is your favorite emcee of all time, dead or alive? Why?

Tupac RIP, but damn Eminem kills it, he got bars! My own brain can’t keep up. But all time favorite since kids has always been Tupac.

10. Who is your favorite horror villain or icon ? Why?

We both like the Predator, dreadlock badass MF and dope tech! I wouldn’t mess with him! …….or her? 😂 but they messed up with the last movie.

11. What has been your greatest accomplishment so far with creating these graphic designs?

I think doing some commission work for a couple of celebrities because we never would off thought we would do that. We would think “hey one day we be doing an album cover for this guy”!

12. What kind of legacy do you guys want to leave behind either creatively or on a personal level?

We’re humble and we don’t expect much, but we would love it if people thought of us as artist who created original dope art and our artwork will still be floating around on the internet for years after we past, that’d be cool.

13. What is next for the Bailey Brothaz? Any special projects you guys are working on?

Most definitely we got lots to do! A whiteboard full of ideas. Everything from creating t-shirt designs as well as logo covers and tattoo designs. We’re always busy with something. Somedays I wish we were triplets haha. As for anything special, yes, but I’m not allowed to say it yet my brother would kill me! 🤭

14. What do you believe sets you guys apart from your peers or competition?

Probably our drawing style as its mixed East n Western. We grew up watching and studying Manga. So that may be the originality of our work and most of our art has Hip Hop influences. There is a lot of superhero artists and thats cool, but we wanted to stand out from that so thats why we do what we do. Also maybe because there’s not just one of us being twins who draw is still rare I guess.

15. What kind of advice or words of encouragement would you give someone who is trying to enter the digital art community?

Hard work putting in the hours studying and grinding away will pay off! Don’t let anyone tell you that you’ll never make it, especially if you put in the work. On the other hand learn how to take in constructive criticism. We both still criticize each others work, but we sit back and go “yeah your right” but we would never say that out loud haha! Also ask other experienced artist their opinions and you will get there.

16. What does your brand stand for or mean to you?

It’s a family business, well for me and my brother it means a lot. We both have gone through the same journey to get to where we are at. I could write a list, but I’d just say it means years of ups and downs from rags to hopefully riches and never give up producing cool shit!

17. What would you like your supporters and customers to know about you?

We’re always here to create art out of your imagination or ours, to produce what our customers want, and if they don’t like it we never give up! It’s your vision we can change direction, switch it up or try something new. We can go back and forth, but in the end the product is going to look fresh!

18. What is your favorite Hip Hop or Gangster movie? Why? I see you guys made Juice graphics which are dope, that is why I ask.

Tough question, I don’t think we have a favorite. We got a collection like Juice, Menace II Society, Boyz N The Hood, etc. Growing up we loved the movie Scarface. I love the story of how Tony Montana starts from nothing and obviously he dies, but damn what a way to go out haha!

19. What inspires or influences the artwork you guys do?

Films, games, graphic novels, cartoons, and music, real life struggles, anything that fuels our imagination.

20. You guys work as a team please expand on how it is working with your sibling in this case your twin? How do you feel it has allowed your business to thrive?

We both have a hand in creating each piece of commission work, but one of us will start it and then the other finish it. Or sometimes it can go back and forth a few times to 100% perfect it. We even joke about it  “I’ve just made that shit you did a lot better” haha. We have sent videos to each other showing the before and after basically saying mine is better, but it’s all fun.

Thank you Bailey Brothaz for your time and being open to do this interview! I truly appreciate you guys!!!Keep representing for the creative twin community! To my readers and supporters hope you all enjoyed reading this interview. Go give the Bailey Brothaz a follow @baileybrothaz to keep up on their latest artwork or to hit them up for commissioned artwork! Until next time horror fiends and hip hop heads. While you’re at it please feel free to follow my blog on social media @7octoberz and Facebook!

Artist: RJ Payne (Features: Benny the Butcher, Jakprogresso, Dark Lo, Tristate, Conway the Machine)

Album: Leatherface

Release Date: May 21, 2019

Buy/Stream album:

Hello Hip Hop Heads and Horror Fans,

RJ Payne was born in Brooklyn, but Philly raised. Benny the Butcher recruited him to be part of his label. He is now the new family member of the Black Soprano Family and rightfully so! I admit I just came across his music a few months back, but from what I have heard so far he is a gifted emcee! He has what it takes to be a rap icon! He just released his latest project titled, “Leatherface“. He has been consistently dropping singles as well!

This project consists of 10 tracks and an intro filled with grimey beats, deadly lyrics and pure charisma. He already has 20 projects (this one included) under his belt. He has remained consistent by dropping heat more than once a year. I’m talking about multiple projects within a year. The fact he resembles the G.O.A.T. Big L is even crazier! He is a living reincarnation of L, not only because they look alike, but his lyrical abilities as well!

As soon as I saw the cover for this album I was super hyped. It was up my alley horror and rap, I was sold! He picked the perfect horror icon, Leatherface to name his album after. Leatherface is a killer that kills for the thrill and is full on murderous maniac. I feel this perfectly describes this project. RJ Payne goes off on a murderous rampage with pure killer bars! Track one is an intro with Gods of rap cosigning as to why RJ is the next emcee to reign in the rap game! We get voice memos from Redman to Black Thought!

The second track on the project titles, “Butcher Meets Leatherface” is the hit single on this project! Him and Benny go on a lyrical massacre and prove why they are nothing to fuck with! Then the third track, “Blood on The Chainsaw” RJ uses his murderous punchlines! He raps how he got to where he is at. He also raps how is not afraid of the dark and how he knows his time is coming! He is killing the rap game!

We also are blessed with tracks like, “97 Payne” where he took inspiration from Benny’s “97 Hov”. In this track we get a boom bap mixed with classical music type beat. The beat on this track reminded me a bit of Immortal Technique’s “Dance With the Devil”. RJ goes off and talks about his life in ’97! Then the track “Black Sunday” is a song you can dedicate to your haters! I loved the rock boom bap type beat. Then the track, “Art of Murder” gives you a mobster movie type vibe! The last track I’ll mention is the last track, “Mortifying“. This is a horror-core song! The rappers featured on this track really paint a gory horror picture! RJ snaps on this! I love his rawness and aggressive delivery!

RJ Payne is one to be on the look out for! He is one of the hardest working emcees our right now! He has a hunger like no one I seen before in recent years! If he keeps the same work ethic and his intellectual murderous bars up there will be nothing that can stop him! He is at the top of the food chain and killin everybody like Leatherface! Go cop this project if you are a hardcore Hip Hop fan! I already downloaded by copy. Now I just need a physical CD to add to my collection! I’m supporting any new music or project he drops next! He is a King on the rise!

Thank you for reading my review. Hope you all enjoyed it! Until next time horror fiends and hip hop heads! While you’re at it follow my blog on social media @7octoberz and Facebook!

Movie: Crawl

Release date: July 12, 2019

Main Cast: Kaya Scodelario and Barry Pepper

Brief synopsis:
“A young woman, while attempting to save her father during a Category 5 hurricane, finds herself trapped in a flooding house and must fight for her life against alligators.”

Hello Hip Hop Heads and Horror Fans,

Today I will be reviewing the thriller/disaster movie, “Crawl“! I don’t think it would fall under horror, but more like real life terror! As the brief synopsis mentions this movie involves a daughter and father who are trapped in their flooded basement with alligators, at the same time a Hurricane is in full effect! This movie reminds me a bit of Sharknado from the premise. I actually have never watched those movies and probably never will lol! But sign me up for a Catergory 5 Hurricane mixed with gators! As soon as I heard Sam Raimi was producing this I did not need much convincing. Even tho I admit before I heard Raimi was involved I kept seeing people talking in social media about the movie and how it was going to be epic with the killer Alligator. At first I was like what are they talking about?! Then I went to see the movie Brightburn in theaters and they played the trailer for Crawl and I was sold! Always been a fan of creature features tho from the 1980s and 90s like Alligator I and II and Lake Placid.

Also behind the Directors camera is Alexandre Aja! I wasn’t a fan of the CGI, but it wasn’t too bad where it hurt the film. I also loved the angles the movie was filmed in. Also the lighting/high contrast added an ominous feel to the movie. Especially because it took place in the middle of a Hurricane storm, I just loved the use of dark tones. This was a film that definitely had your heart racing and had you at the edge of your seat! I loved it because from the beginning to the end there was no dull moment.

I also loved the fact that even though it was all thrill and action it still had a story with depth! The story revolved around a father and daughter relationship that is a bit torn. We are given flashbacks that show their intense bond for each other, but we also see how they have grown apart due to her father divorcing her mother. The main character Haley is a total badass! She is a swimmer who has the gift to be great, but seems to doubt herself. We soon find out from the flashbacks that her father used to be her swim coach and would motivate her to be the best! It then goes back to present time where her sister contacts her to ask her if she has spoken to their dad since she called and he did not answer. Haley’s sister is worried since her dad usually returns her calls right away and their currently is a Hurricane (Category 5) in effect. We then realize that Haley and her dad are no longer close as they were when she was younger. There are hints that the dad is going through a depression after getting divorced and that has caused him to distance himself from his daughter.

Either way Haley goes back into town to find her dad. I don’t want to give away too much, but as you see in the previews she ends up trapped with her father in a flooded basement with gators! This is where all hell breaks loose and you are left screaming at the screen guiding the characters. I loved how they show the bond between father and daughter. Also when they have their heart to heart, thinking they are not going to make it. The father recalls how he used to call her the “Apex Predator” and that she is a fighter! You can see how her dad still believes in her and knows she can be the greatest swimmer, she just has to believe it herself! Very powerful moment!

I believe the character development is what makes this movie entertaining and gives it heart! Also the writers and the use of camera angles built the suspense. Also can’t forget the dope kills by the killer gators! You do get your fair share of gory carnage! I highly recommend checking this movie out in theaters! It is an intense and emotional rollercoaster. Definitely agree with the reviews that this is the horror movie of the Summer!

Thank you for reading my review. Hope you all enjoyed it! Until next time horror fiends and hip hop heads! While you’re at it follow my blog on social media @7octoberz and Facebook!

Hello Hip Hop Heads and Horror Fans,

Today I will be sharing with you all an interview I did with DJ and Music Producer Andy aka AIM TJ! I first met AIM TJ at the SD Music Room that is moderated by the talented rapper Yazi! He played a few beats at the meeting and you could tell he loves what he does! The beats were dope and I also thought it was cool that he was from TJ and proud of his culture! I even gave him the idea of doing a beat sampling or remixing the song by Elvis Crespo, “Suavemente”! He ended up making a beat like that a few weeks later which was dope! I’ve seen him at local hip hop events DJin and he kills every set and is always showing love! We share a mutual respect for each other!

He is also Legion X’s personal DJ! Not only does Andy DJ, he is also a music producer! He has a talented artist from his camp, M.Hernan who is an up and coming singer from TJ as well. I saw him perform at a Hip Hop show at Diamond Jim’s a few weeks ago and he did an amazing performance! AIM TJ seemed really proud of him! Dope to see two talented individuals pushing each others craft and succeeding! AIM TJ has many upcoming shows coming up! Proud of how much he has accomplished. Hard work truly pays off! See below a list of his upcoming shows if you want to go and support him! I won’t make this introduction any longer. Please read below to know a bit more about AIM TJ’s journey and who he is!

Please introduce yourself for those who might not know who you are?

My name is Andy, I’m a Music producer from Tijuana.

What is the significance of your moniker DJ Aim TJ?
It has different meanings some people say it’s my name. But it actually stands for Authors of Independent Music which we are tryna create a company. Also our Headquarters is in Tijuana so that’s the TJ.
How long have you been Djing and Producing? Can you share a bit about your journey how you got started?
I started producing in College. I eventually got a drum beat machine and I was playing around. I learned some techniques and got better equipment. Then I started hitting Downtown with a speaker and playing my music. Met a couple of people down there and that’s how I got to the AC Lounge and everything changed!
You are Legion X’s personal DJ. How did that happen? How did you guys form that relationship?
I meet this MF at Blonde Bar, el cabrón tenía un poncho, el pelo parado y la cara pintada. He was hella drawing my attention when he suddenly played his music I saw a lot of people who were loving it! When he was done I found him in the bathroom. Whenever the show was done we talked and he invited me to be a part of his band.
What made you fall in love with Hip Hop and the culture?
You know it’s kinda weird, my family loves rock my dad loves Iron Maiden and my momma Poison & Quiet Riot. So how I got into Hip Hop was when I heard this one song from Beastie Boys called: “Sabotage” it was so aggressive it was so heavy I loved it. I went ahead and bought Beastie Boys Ill Communication album and I loved it. That’s how I got into Hip Hop!
Does your roots or Heritage influence you when you are Producing beats? For example do you sample Spanish music?
Yes, I did that one Suavemente beat remix. My style is trying to combine American trap and Mexican boom bap Hip Hop or at least that’s what I try to do.
Do you feel there are disadvantages or advantages in the Hip Hop scene to being a latino DJ/Producer?
I think it’s kinda equal for everybody I know a lot of DJ’s latinos.
Who is/are your favorite emcees/rappers? Can be of all time or current. You can choose more than one.
Babo from Cartel de Santa and 50 Cent
Who is/are your favorite DJ’s or Producers?
Djs: Fat Boy Slim, Mix Master Mike from Beastie Boys and DJ Muggz from Cypress Hill
Producers: Mono from Cartel de Santa, Scott Storch, Kanye West and Metro Boomin
What is your favorite scary movie? Why?
Rec 2. I love zombies movies, even know the first one was a remake of Quarantine the second one of this series was dope. Almost no light and a lot of scare jumps.
Any favorite horror soundtracks or horror-core albums if any?
Man of course John Carpenter’s Halloween theme! Horror-core, I’m pretty sure Legion X is one so I’ll say American Psycho (I love to play that song)
What kind of legacy do you want to leave behind whether creatively or on a personal level?
It’s interesting because everybody thinks that I’m an artist I’m more of a walking brand lol. I’m a talking logo lol and it’s because my goal is to become the most important music company in Mexico, I know almost no artist from Mexico wants to come to the US and that’s where we have advantage!
What is next for DJ Aim TJ? Any upcoming projects/shows or any other creative outlets you want to be involved in in the near future?
Right now I’m producing my first artist in a more Trap Mainstream genre.  His first show was at Diamond Jim’s on 6/6. The Hip Hop event was called Project Projection.
Any words of encouragement to those who are thinking getting into DJin or Producing?
Why tha hell no!! Go for it!! Man I know a lot of producers that I think they’re better then me, but they don’t do the things I do because of fear of failure! Man, I do things because I wanna do things and I do it for fun! Also I’m involved in the Hip Hop scene!
What has been your greatest accomplishment so far being a DJ/Producer?
Man I don’t know, I will say not playing in the streets anymore. I liked it and I loved it and will do it again, but man I rather play in a place!
Any shout outs?
To the Homie Mariachi G, Mike Billionaire, M Hernan, Nomad, Legion X (I call him Julius), The Fresh State team for all the chances to play at the AC Lounge. You, 7 Octoberz for this meeting and shoutout to all the people who vibe with my music!

Artist: 3rd Person (Mad Macks, Don’t Sleep and Rokem) .  Featuring: Kiddo, Viva Mescal, Sir J, Theez, Maya Huyana

Album: Rare Stones Vol. 1

Release Date: May 9, 2019

Buy/Stream album: All Platforms

Hello Hip Hop Heads and Horror Fans,

Today I will be reviewing 3rd Person’s album titled, “Rare Stones Vol. 1“. 3rd Person consists of 2 emcees and 1 Producer! Mad Macks, Don’t Sleep bless the mic and Rokem on the Production! This rap group reminds me a bit of Ab-Soul from the topics to the wordplay! Throughout the whole project they spit spiritual lyricism! The album consists of 14 tracks with a running time of approximately 41 minutes.  The Production has a boom bap and jazzy vibe!

I had the opportunity to meet Mad Macks when he performed a set at HipHopWeds a few weeks ago. Him and Kiddo (a dope emcee who happens to be a girl!) were there and I went up to them to introduce myself. I actually started following their East of the River movement when I saw Viva Mescal perform at HipHopWeds months back. I also reviewed Viva’s album! Their movement is really dope and they only have pure lyricists in their roster! I came up to Mad Macks after his performance and told him I thought he was dope and was going to buy his album. I told him I review albums for my Hip Hop Horror blog and he was kind enough to just give me the album for free! I appreciate you!

I had the time to listen to the album and vibe to it a few times. I will briefly cover a few tracks and give my interpretation. I won’t give too much away since I want you all to check out this project and come up with your interpretations! “Pyro“, is one of the first tracks they talk about spiritual wisdom. They show off their lyrical abilities! The scratches on this beat are crazy! This track definitely leaves you mind blown! The bar is set high with the first track! The next track, “Mountain Top” is very inspirational about reaching the top, staying motivated and pushing their movement through all the struggles! This track features Kiddo where she is singing on the hook and kills it with her dope vocals! Diggin’ the vibe on this one.

One of the catchy tracks of this project is “FWM“, this track is dedicated to all the haters and proving they were wrong! This is one of those tracks that gets you motivated, makes you appreciate life and all the struggles we face, but still manage to overcome! Another stand out track is, “Red Coop“, man that Xxplosive sample is fuckin’ dope as fuck! Rokem did his thing on that one! This track has a dope message as well. Mad Macks raps on this track about finding one’s purpose, self love, fighting stereotypes and making it when people doubted him! Very motivational song!

The track “Badmen” is another dope track! Don’t sleep on the dreamers! This track is how they treat us like villains! Then we get the track, “Since 2010” where he raps about his journey in the rap game. He raps how he ignores the negativity and focuses on his music! The last track on the project is “If You Know Me” which has a slowed down jazzy type beat. They rap about finding peace within, haters trying to dim their light, but they glowing still! Do not let people limit you or give up on your dreams! I love the positive message of this track!

If you are into lyricism, spiritual wisdom, knowledge of self, positive vibes and just dope boom bap/jazzy beats then go check out this project! You definitely will not regret it! 3rd Person is a crew not to be fucked with they are bringing something different straight out of LA! Go support this project by either streaming or buying a physical copy! Go follow them on social media @whois3rdperson to keep up with their music!

Thank you for reading my review. Hope you all enjoyed it! Until next time horror fiends and hip hop heads! While you’re at it follow my blog on social media @7octoberz and Facebook!

NIGHTMARE ON SEDGWICK AVENUE – “Female Lyricist on the Pyramids!!!- Verde – Saving the People Album Review”

Artist: Verde (Featuring: Fabio Alejo)

Album: Saving the People

Release Date: November 11, 2018

Buy/Stream album: All Platforms

Hello Hip Hop Heads and Horror Fans,

Today I will be reviewing Verde’s album titled, “Saving The People“. I have the pleasure of meeting Verde and seen her perform a few times. She is a lyricist from my hometown of San Diego! I love to see a female who is talented that can rock the mic and also produces beats! She is a dope human being and an amazing performance. She has become one of my favorite lyricists! She is young and has what it takes to blow up and inspire people with her music!

The album has 11 tracks, technically 10 since the last track is voice messages from her supporters and friends. It has a running time of 40 minutes. I’m not sure if Verde produced all her beats on this project, but the production is fucking dope! You get boombap beats, soul samples, lo-fi type beats, latin type beats and even a cumbia type beat. Verde raps in both English and Spanish! Verde is a female reincarnation of Capital Steez! From her word play, rhyme schemes and the themes she raps about remind me of him! She is a natural spitta!

The songs in this album contain positive and inspirational messages. The song, “Welcome to Babylon” you get a latin guitar strings type production. This is a feel good song where Verde raps pure lyricism and shows off why is a rap Queen! Then the second track, “Rap- Lies = Hip Hop“, has this soulful type sample which I love! This song is about the government and media lying to us and starting a revolution! Definitely one of my favorite tracks, even tho I like all of them lol. Then you have the third track, “Saving the People” which is one of her hit singles in my opinion! This is a very deep song about government corruption, police brutality to genocide, etc. It is a fully charged socio political song! This song seems heavily influenced by the late Capital Steez and homage to him as well!

Another dope track is, “Liberar a la Gente” the song starts with clips of various people like the news to Trump speaking negative about immigrants. This track is very inspirational and motivational! She dedicates this to all the hardworking immigrants! Very beautiful song! We are also blessed with tracks like, “Can’t Work a 9 to 5” where Verde melodically is singing about not being able to follow the norms and work the typical 9 to 5. She sings how her music is her true passion! Another stand out track is, “Words That Manifest” she proudly shows off her rapping and poetic ability.

I won’t give too much away go buy/stream/listen or hit up Verde for a physical copy of this album! I got my copy already! Verde is a rap goddess glad to see a dope female emcee from SD who is killin’ the game! She is blowing up I already know it! I am manifesting that to the Universe! Can’t wait to hear what she has to say next! Verde keep representing for the brown and proud ladies! This project is dope as fuck! You created a great body of work!

Thank you for reading my review. Hope you all enjoyed it! Until next time horror fiends and hip hop heads! While you’re at it follow my blog on social media @7octoberz and Facebook!
