Release Date: August 23, 2019

Hello Hip Hop Heads and Horror Fans,

Today I will be reviewing Rapsody’s album titled, “Eve”.  I am a little late on this review. Rapsody created an amazing body of work! She dedicated this album to legends who happen to be dope Black Women that inspired her! I truly love this project it is definitely on my list of Best Albums of 2019! I loved the spoken word at the end of some of the tracks by the talented poet and Author Reyna Biddy! As a songwriter and poet myself I had been thinking of releasing a Spoken Word EP and when I heard this album I fell in love!

The album consists of 16 tracks each titled after legendary Black Woman. Rapsody uses what each woman is known for and raps about her life and how she has a little of all these woman in her! My favorite track of this project is the first track, “Nina“. This track is titled after the amazing singer and civil rights activist Nina Simone which samples her famous song, “Strange Fruit”. Rapsody raps about her perseverance, showing us how she is a product of Nina. Rapsody goes off!! Favorite verse is on this track! Another dope track, “Aaliyah” is an amazing homage song to Aaliyah. Rapsody talks about how she stands out and is okay with who she is. She spits, “I don’t care what you got to say about me no more/ Double dutchin’ when I’m tuckin’ and my back on the ropes/I be chillin’, ain’t got no feelings when I’m ridin’ the slope/Skeezer’s gon’ be skeezers, I’m just dope/I’m here to shake the system up, we gon’ rock the boat/’Cause I’m that somebody that you still need to know!”.

Then you got a more upbeat and trap like beat for the song, “Oprah“. She raps about being successful like Oprah! It is a very dope song with a catchy hook. This is more of a mainstream track, but Rapsody still brings her bars! This features the dope emcee Leikeli47 who also goes in! I honestly love all the tracks. But the other track that I fell in love with last year that happened to be added to this project is, “Sojourner” ft. J Cole. Rapsody has been working on this project for over a year. She did mention since the inception of this album she knew her next project would be dedicated to woman that have impacted her, so it makes sense this track was added. J. Cole kills his feature like always and Rapsody also brings the heat. Definitely a very introspective track!

Rapsody has been killing the game lyrically and always creating dope conceptual albums! Although I didn’t really start following her journey until 2017, I knew she was going to do great things! Specially when she dropped her Grammy Nominated album, “Laila’s Wisdom”, that was an amazing album! She is a great storyteller and just simply put has bars! Her pen game is unmatched! She does not get the appreciation she deserves. I read online someone said she is not underrated she is under-appreciated and I agree! I think other Hip Hop fans are starting to open their eyes and see she is a lyrical beast! Go cop this album I got my copy! Do not sleep on this project!

Thank you for reading my album review! Hope you all enjoyed it! Until next time horror fiends and hip hop heads! NIGHTMARE ON SEDGWICK AVENUE – “GOD SAVE THE QUEENS: THE ESSENTIAL HISTORY OF WOMEN IN HIP HOP- LADIES FIRST!!! -KATHY IANDOLI – BOOK REVIEW”

BY: GABY MORENO

91VQXl32DXL

Author: Kathy Iandoli

Book: God Save the Queens: The Essential History of Women in Hip-Hop

Release Date: October 22, 2019

Brief Summary: A book written by the dope Hip Hop Journalist Kathy Iandoli who pays homage to the Woman Pioneers of Hip Hop that paved the way for more ladies to exist in this male dominated culture. She takes us on a journey from the 70s to today’s top female Hip Hop artists. Kathy shows us Hip Hop through another lense that has not been told before!

Hello Hip Hop Heads and Horror Fans,

Today I will be reviewing Kathy Iandoli’s book titled, “God Save the Queens”.  This is my first book review so here we go! I came across this book randomly on Amazon. I was looking for a new Hip Hop book to read and this came up on the top 10 list and of course the cover and title grabbed by attention. When I read the synopsis I was honestly at first skeptical and thought it might not be real lol. Then at that moment it dawned on me that I had never read a Hip Hop book where women pioneers were highlighted, they were just briefly mentioned. I knew I had to buy this book and was extremely happy someone decided to write this story that needed to be told! I learned a lot from this book, some stories I had never heard or had been told. This book educated me on other female rappers that I did know about and made me want to go back and check out their music. Reading this gave me nostalgia and made me appreciate Hip Hop culture even more than I already do!

maxresdefault

This book also made me realize how even sometimes myself as a woman I am unconsciously programmed to only know Hip Hop history through the male lense. The reason I say this is as everyone knows my blog is titled after Nightmare for Nightmare on Elm Street and Sedgwick Avenue where the first Hip Hop party took place. All this time I would always give credit to DJ Kool Herc and always failed to recognize the reason this party was even thrown was due to Kool Herc’s sister Cindy Campbell. I was blown away how if I did this, how many other people might forget to credit her or even mention her?! I felt guilty, but now that I am more self aware this makes my blog even more special. Moving forward now every time I mention Sedgwick Avenue I will give the Mother of Hip Hop Cindy the credit and accolades she deserves! If you think about it a woman (Cindy( produced and financed the first Hip Hop party making her the first Hip Hop promoter! THANK YOU CINDY WITHOUT YOU HIP HOP WOULD NOT BE WHERE IT IS TODAY!!!

janette-beckman-x-hero-2

Kathy did her homework as the dope journalist she is and interviewed Hip Hop legends. She shares anecdotes from the Hip Hop pioneers themselves to even the new blood and those who are still fairly young to the industry. You get to hear the struggles they faced or continue to face. For example what Snow tha Product stated in the book, “I feel like its crazy that people to this day hit me on some, “You’re good for a girl.” Women should be seen as talent, not gender-based.” When I read that I could relate. When I first started my blog I would get messages in my IG inbox where people would assume I was a dude. Make note I had my logo with my picture in it me dressed as Freddy Krueger! Either people did not take the time to review my page or some people assume that women wouldn’t start a Hip Hop Horror blog?!🤷🏽‍♀️ So I definitely agree with Snow tha Product, maybe one day we will get there! I am positive about that!

IMG_20151220_110304-1024x1024I am glad this book was finally written! It is a history that needed to be told and had never been done. I am glad it was written by a woman as well because it gives it more authenticity. Kathy’s anecdotes about even her struggles in the journalism field is a perfect analogy of the struggles Woman gotta face in general. I always say as a women we gotta fight twice as hard to get the respect we deserve! But the existence of Hip Hop is a true testament and proof of how when Women hustle and fight for what they want, they create beautiful things! Thank you to all the Queens from Cindy Campbell, Queen Latifah, Roxanne Shante, Debbie D, MC Lyte the list goes on! I highly recommend this book for all the Hip Hop fans! If you are a Hip Hop historian or connoisseur this is a must read! I enjoyed every minute of it! I was so intrigued I read it in about 4 days. Kathy thank you for this book it is a game changer for the Hip Hop culture and it was needed! It couldn’t have came at a better time where Women are currently thriving in the genre!

Thank you for reading my first book review! Hope you all enjoyed it! Until next time horror fiends and hip hop heads! NIGHTMARE ON SEDGWICK AVENUE – “UNION RAP!!! -APOLLO – THE BLUE COLLAR EP REVIEW”

Artist: Apollo

Album: The Blue Collar EP

Release Date: November 7, 2019

Buy/Stream album: All streaming platforms

Hello Hip Hop Heads and Horror Fans,

Today I will be reviewing Apollo’s EP titled, “The Blue Collar EP”. The EP consists of 6 tracks with a running time of 22 minutes. Apollo is a member of the Spooky Gang Collective that I am honored to be a part of. I have attended a few events where Apollo rocked the mic. His command of the stage and his gift to rhyme are one of a kind! He is a true wordsmith and I don’t just say that loosely. I can see has a true love for the Art of Rap and takes his time when putting words together. He is a student of the craft and I admire that! Apollo is a natural born spitta! His intellect and rhyme schemes roll off his tongue seamlessly!

This EP is a motivational project for the working class and specifically manual labor workers! He paints a picture and shows us a glimpse of his reality and his day to day. Apollo takes us into his world and on a lyrical journey. His daughter also makes a guest appearance which adds a genuine and transparent side to Apollo. He raps that he just wants to follow his dream. He also raps how he does this for the love of the music not for the money, but also wants be able to provide for his daughter at the same time. The first track, “Training Day” has a soulful instrumental where Apollo pours his soul and spits this for the people working 9 to 5’s who still have the courage to dream and find time! Very deep track! The third track, “Blue Collar Rap (Dead and Gone)” is probably one of my favorite tracks from this EP, The beat is crazy! ID the Poet produced it and did his thing. I love the sample! The fourth track, “Be Cool” ft. Badluck Cortez on the hook is dope! I first heard the track live at the Diamond Jim’s a few months back. The beat was produced by the homie Ray Flaqui it has a grimey sound mixed with boom bap!

20190810_215708
Overall this is an amazing EP! Put it in rotation to motivate yourself or get inspired. Whether you are at the gym, going for a run or getting ready for work. This is a very universal EP that anyone can relate to. Also if you are a fan of pure lyricism and dope rhyme schemes check this out you won’t regret it! Apollo you’re crazy for this one! All the producers and features also did they thing! Go stream it or buy it! Support local talent! Apollo is from Maryland, but a San Diego transplant and we are proud to have him here! Keep doing your thing hermano!

NIGHTMARE ON SEDGWICK AVENUE – “IMMORTAL LOVE STORY!!! – QUEEN & SLIM MOVIE REVIEW”

BY: GABY MORENO

Queen-Slim-wide

Movie: Queen & Slim

Main Cast: Daniel Kaluuya, Jodie Turner-Smith, Bokeem Woodbine, Indya Moore and more!

IMDB synopsis: “A couple’s first date takes an unexpected turn when a police officer pulls them over.”

Hello Hip Hop Heads and Horror Fans,

Today I thought I would review the phenomenal film, “Queen & Slim“. It is not a horror film, but it is a film with Hip Hop elements. Melina Matsoukas did a hell of a job directing. Also visionary and great writer Lena Waithe brought this story to life. Credit also goes to the main actors who gave breathtaking performances. They really embodied Queen and Slim and gave these characters life! It was an emotional rollercoaster and a poetic masterpiece! A tragic, but beautiful Black modern love story! In the words of Rhianna “They found love in a hopeless place”. A very social political story that perfectly encapsulates the world we live in today where Black Men and Women still are being gunned down by the those deemed to serve and protect.

This film is a true love story, a love that grew from a tragic event! I love that it uses todays modern form of online dating to bring these characters into each others worlds. I watched an interview where Lena Waithe was promoting the film and she stated she made Queen’s character have more of a Malcolm X personality whereas Slim’s character was written to be more like Martin Luther King and by the end of the film Slim and Queen switch roles. You can see this throughout the film from Queen and Slim’s differences in how they live their lives, religious beliefs, their outlook on life, destiny, love and even their relationships with their families. They couldn’t be more opposites and Queen even jokes throughout the movie that Slim would have not been her type.

queen-and-slim-dance

This made me think how many people have we all met in our lives that we met once and wrote them off, but what if we had given them a chance and truly gotten to know them would we have hit it off? There is this myth or belief that when you meet your soulmate you instantly have this connection, but what if that is far from the truth? This film touches on just that, but with a deeper message. Also the conversations between Queen and Slim in between scenes were beautifully done. It gave the film a spoken word type vibe!

I highly recommend this film whether you see it in theaters or stream it online. I will definitely be buying a copy once it releases. The soundtrack to this film was amazingly picked as well! It gave the story even more life! I love that there are more films bringing back original soundtracks created for the film. It brings me back to the era of 90’s soundtrack that were filled with Rap and R&B. Go watch this film you won’t regret it!

NIGHTMARE ON SEDGWICK AVENUE – “BEAT STREET VIBES!!! – DJ PNUTZ – THE BREAKMAKER VOL. 1 BEAT TAPE REVIEW”

Artist: DJ Pnutz

Album: The Breakmaker Vol. 1

Release Date: Nov. 8, 2019

Buy/Stream album: All streaming platforms

Hello Hip Hop Heads and Horror Fans,

This beat tape took me back to the origins of Hip Hop! It takes you back to the era where the 5 elements of Hip Hop were just beginning! Where the bboys and bgirls were wrecking the cardboard or cement, DJ’s rocking the turntables, Emcees hyping the crowd, Graffiti walls and people just having fun! This beat tape is a collection of break dancing beats with late 70s and 80s nostalgia. You also get some funky and jazzy production! You can put on this tape and either bust some moves or just chill or go about your daily routine and play it in the background.

This is the first time I review a beat tape so it was dope that this tape took me back to the essence of where Hip Hop started. It even had me go back and watch the classic Hip Hop movie, “Beat Street” lol. This beat tape reminded me why I fell in love with Hip Hop in the first place! If you are bboy or bgirl and want something to dance to def check this out or if you are just a Hip Hop fan like myself give it a spin!

Thank you for reading my first beat tape review! Hope you all enjoyed it! Until next time horror fiends and hip hop heads! Hello Hip Hop Heads and Horror Fans,

Today I will be reviewing IamJYoungin’s project titled, “Ocean Fish Future Goat 2“. I came across his music through his Marketing and PR Rep Patrice who I met at the LA Revolt Summit this past October 2019. She said he is an LBC artist who is gonna blow up soon! She said it with so much confidence I asked her for a copy of a CD or project. She handed me IamJYoungin’s new CD that he was going to drop in the next few weeks. I finally had a chance to put it on rotation and listen to it a few times. IamJYoungin aka Jeremiah is a young entrepreneur who is beyond a rapper. He has a non profit organization and has done TED talks as a young kid. He has a drive and a positive outlook of the world it bleeds into his music. His music gives you that feel good vibe as well!

The project consists of 22 tracks with a running time of 1 hour and 2 minutes. As I mentioned you definitely get a West Coast LBC beach vibe listening to this project. I don’t like comparing artists, but he reminds me of a young Snoop Dogg mixed with Nipsey Hussle, he also brings his own charisma. This is a project you can press play and just cruise in your ride. The beats are wavy and have that bass I love! You get tracks like, “Spazz“, “All Type of Ways“, “Tags” and “Change Yea“, where J is just flexin and having a good time. Then you also get a more introspective track, “Family Letter“and J shows another side to his music. Definitely one of my favorite tracks. I also loved Deneisha Rhyne’s vocals they are amazing! Also “Earned It” is a track where he raps how his hard work is why he deserves success! Then one of the tracks towards the end that surprised me was the track “La Bolsa” it shows J’s versatility as he raps in Spanish. You get a latin trap and tropical vibe! Overall it is a solid project!

IMG_5483-715x400

The only constructive feedback I would give is to have a shorter project for the future. In the era of so much music being released it is easier to consume a short album/EP. In my opinion it gives it a higher replay value. I also know in the new era of rap autotune is popular for the youth, but I appreciate the real vocals it gives a more organic feel. Overall it was a solid project. J is a young mogul who cares about his community and doing positive things to make positive changes! His project is on all streaming platforms or follow him on IG @iamjyoungin to get physical copy of this project! Go support this rapper who is doing big things!

Thank you for reading my album review! Hope you all enjoyed it! Until next time horror fiends and hip hop heads! NIGHTMARE ON SEDGWICK AVENUE – “CONTAGIOUS ILL RHYMES!!! -SICK RICK & SPEAK EZ – SPEAKING SICK ALBUM REVIEW”

BY: GABY MORENO

Resized_sick_rick

Artist: Sick Rick & Speak EZ

Album: Speaking Sick

Release Date: October 11, 2019

Hello Hip Hop Heads and Horror Fans,

Today I will be reviewing Sick Rick and Speak Ez’s album titled, “Speaking Sick”. My spooky fam has been non stop putting out quality projects all year long! This album is no exception we are blessed with 11 tracks of pure grimey beats and ill bars!!! The album has a running time of 31 minutes filled with deadly rhymes! If you are into pure lyrical slaughter and boombap gritty beats then this is the project for you! Speak Ez and Sick Rick both go in bar for bar!

The outstanding track for me was, “Can’t Stop the Flow“, it has a very catchy chorus. The beat is out of this world too! Also the final track, “Dairy” they both go in and it features Sire Spooky Smalls Uno. They slaughtered all the wack rappers! Then you get tracks like, “Church” the beat give me Phantom of the Opera vibes! Then the track, “My Way“, the beat goes hard very ominous with poisonous raps! Sick Rick and Speak Ez created a diabolical masterpiece! You get horror references to pop culture! If you appreciate rhymes that make you think and complex bars you will definitely love this project! Now all streaming platforms go support! San Diego is killin the rap game right now!

Thank you for reading my album review! Hope you all enjoyed it! Until next time horror fiends and hip hop heads! NIGHTMARE ON SEDGWICK AVENUE – “SHINE BRIGHT!!! -DOCTOR SLEEP MOVIE REVIEW”

BY: GABY MORENO

img_4231-1

Movie: Doctor Sleep

Main Cast: Ewan McGregor, Rebecca Ferguson, Kyliegh Curran, Zahn McClarnon and Cliff Curtis

IMDB synopsis:
“Years following the events of “The Shining,” a now-adult Dan Torrance must protect a young girl with similar powers from a cult known as The True Knot, who prey on children with powers to remain immortal.”

New Horror Rule: Don’t let your arrogance cloud your judgement, it can be a deadly mistake!

Hello Hip Hop Heads and Horror Fans,

Today I will be reviewing the film, “Doctor Sleep” which is a sequel to Stephen King’s book The Shining and a sequel to Stanley Kubrick’s cult classic by the same name. I went to see this film in theaters twice. There are a lot of mixed reviews, but I loved it! Some say The Shining casted a giant shadow on this film, but I disagree. I feel like the Director Mike Flanagan did an amazing job! I am in love with his work from The Haunting of Hill House to Ouija: Origin of Evil. His use of angles and imagery is captivating!

This film gave me Inception vibes mixed with horror elements. My favorite character was Abra who in my opinion stole the show. I loved her, she was a badass kid with the ultimate shining powers! She also had the balls  that Danny didn’t. She was not afraid to go after the True Knots. The cast was great as well, Cliff Curtis was amazing as Dan’s friend. Rose the Hat was an okay villain, I liked Crow Daddy played by dope actor Zahn McClarnon who is also in one of my favorite shows called Westworld. We also get a more modernized remake of The Shining score. We get the famous ominous horns and the eerie anticipation that something bad is about to happen.

This film definitely pays homage to The Shining, the finale takes us back to the Overlook Hotel where all the horrors started. For those Shining fans you get a trip down scary memory lane. I loved how they weren’t censored when it came to filming a controversial murder of a child. We got a bit of that in the movie It (2017) with Georgie’s arm being torn off by Pennywise the Clown and even then it wasn’t that graphic. I always appreciate when Directors and writers aren’t afraid to show something that normally hasn’t been done before or break the mold. I definitely recommend checking out this film! I was never really fan of The Shining to be honest. In my defense I was a kid when I watched it and maybe I didn’t fully grasp the film’s intention, but this film made me want to go back and rewatch it!

Thank you for reading my movie review. Hope you all enjoyed it! Until next time horror fiends and hip hop heads! NIGHTMARE ON SEDGWICK AVENUE – “GODDESS MUSICIAN!!! – ANGEL FARRAH – LA UNICA EP REVIEW”

BY: GABY MORENO
download
Artist: Angel Farrah

Album: La Unica

Release Date: Sept. 20, 2019

Buy/Stream album: All streaming platforms

Hello Hip Hop Heads and Horror Fans,

Today I will be reviewing the EP titled, “La Unica” by my friend Angel Farrah! She is truly a musician she plays the saxaphone, sings and raps in Spanish and English!!! I love her versatility and her change of flow. Each track on this project has a different vibe, style and genre. The EP consists of only 8 tracks and running time of 25 minutes. This album has a little bit of everything for everyone. From dancehall type beats to slowed down r&b ballads. You also get lyrics that are relatable about the ups and down of love and life!

I had a chance to interview Angel and she mentioned the tracklist was placed in a specific order to tell a story. The songs were strategically placed in that order to take us on a journey about Angel’s love life and more! Also her cadence and tone switches up from the beginning to the end of the project. She starts with a mellow soft spoken voice then by the end of the project Angel is more confident and a bit more abrasive! Angel mentioned this is on purpose to reflect where she currently is in her life. She is happy and more confident than she has ever been with herself and her music.

artworks-000505929591-1hlm3f-t500x500
The first track is “Vybez” which is talking about when you feeling that person and the beginning stages of a relationship. Then the second track, “My Love“, which is my favorite track on this project. It’s a hit and I could hear it being played at a party, club or just cruising in a car. It is a feel good love song. Then you get the the song “La Unica” which is about her convincing a guy that she is the only one for him! The track right after is, “Torn in 2” another favorite track of this project. The track is very personal and deep! Angel shares a personal story about her ex and how she loved him, but he was not supportive of her musical career. Her independence scared him. So she chose music!

I won’t give away all the tracks, you gotta listen to this project! The last track I will mention is, “Facts” this song is a banger. You get a trap like beat and Angel goes in! She spits how she is doin herself and being surrounded by fake people, but she can see thru them with her third eye! This is the anthem for the ladies! I definitely recommending checking out this EP! I am not biased because I personally know Angel, but this is really a dope body of work that deserves to be heard! Angel is doing great things and can’t wait to see what she drops next!

Thank you for reading my EP review! Hope you all enjoyed it! Until next time horror fiends and hip hop heads! While you’re at it follow my blog on social media @7octoberz on Instagram and Facebook! NIGHTMARE ON SEDGWICK AVENUE – “OVERCOMING FEAR THRU CREATIVITY – HORRIFIC THOUGHTS INTERVIEW”

BY: GABY MORENO

THOP 19

Hello Hip Hop Heads and Horror Fans,

Today I will be sharing an interview I did with Pablo the founder of Horrific Thoughts. I stumbled on their clothing brand when I went to the THOP fest a month ago. They were selling t-shirts, beanies and other clothing items. I thought the tee designs were dope! I even copped me a tee. You can see me rockin’ it below. I loved the dark vibe and the horror inspired designs, from what I observed. As a horror fan/t-shirt addict I thought the art was amazing and I wanted to shout out their brand! They are based out in Ontario, CA where the THOP fest took place. Pablo was kind enough and took time out of his schedule to answer the interview questions via email. Thanks to Ariel who facilitated the interview. Without further a do please read below to get to know more about Horrific Thoughts and what they represent!

  1. Please introduce yourself for those who might not know who you are?

Pablo @littlepabloillestever, Horrific Thoughts Founder and Designer.

  2.  When did your clothing business Horrific Thoughts get started and if you can please share what inspired your business and your journey. Also please share where is your business based out of so readers may know.

Horrific Thoughts was started in 2011 by myself with a strong backing from Inzoe (1988-2012), Ariel @arielistic, and Nestor @nes.g_ . We are based out of the Inland Empire, more specifically, Ontario. This started as another artistic outlet for me utilizing my graffiti and tattoo background, which has evolved to us just trying to find a platform to spread positivity and help uplift each other through our art.

  3. What is the meaning behind the name Horrific Thoughts?

Horrific Thoughts was something surrounding our crowd whether it was our upbringings or current surroundings which was also reflected in art/visuals around us. We turned this into a platform to acknowledge we may all have “horrific thoughts”, but we don’t need to fall victim to them, instead we use art as a starting point to begin to overcome them.
  4. What would you like your brand to represent or what does it mean to you?

I want it to represent acceptance and embracing our struggles creating compassion for everyone’s struggles and whatever downfalls they feel they have, but also it’s acknowledging and embracing our own using our various artistic outlets to help us.
  5. I always say Fear is universal it affects everyone. How do you conquer your fears on the daily or any advice you can give to your supporters?

Just gotta get up, go, and get it done. The worst that can happen is failure and there’s always a lesson in that. It’s not all bad, regret is worse than failing.
  6. I first came across your clothing at the THOP Fest this year 2019. How long have you guys been involved in the Hip Hop scene and how did you guys get involved with Hip Hop music scene? We have been involved in the hip hop scene since before the brand, we got into the scene through a lot of our friends who are local hip hop artists with opportunities to vend at their shows and it grew from there
  7. Do you guys have any plans of being vendors at any other events? If so which ones and how did those opportunities come about?

Networking is how we get all of our events nowadays. Other vendors refer us or Event Planners reach out to us having seen us on other events or flyers. We also have a solid street team that tunes us into new events we may not see as well as artists we have grown relationships with that put us on to new crowds. Our next events will be on 11/2 (two events one day) I (Pablo) will be at Hip Hops Most Haunted brought to us by @thestonersystempodcast and Ariel will be at Dia De Los Growing Pains brought to us by @growingpains.ca. This will be our first event with @thestonersystempodcast and our second Growing Pains event. Honestly if you want to be at an event but maybe you aren’t sure of the crowd or a set up fee isn’t in your budget definitely show up to the show for yourself, meet other vendors, meet the coordinators, mingle. The more people we meet the more opportunities we can all share with each other.

  8. What has been your favorite Hip Hop event your clothing line has attended and why?

THOP fest, amazing performers, amazing headliners, amazing crowds. We got to hang out with Grieves! Every event is always amazing, I can’t say we have been to any that did not leave a memorable impact for us, but come on, WE GOT TO HANG OUT WITH GRIEVES!

  9. Who does the t-shirt designs? What or who inspires those designs?

I (Pablo) do. We have another artist on our team @ter5eone that we have dropped a collaboration collection with in 2018. Life inspires these designs, mostly stress, I tend to do my best work under some kind of pressure.

  10. Any horror movies or shows that has inspired any of your t-shirt designs?

We have a stranger things rip, so clearly that inspired us. Other designs have underlying tones of movies like Halloween and Nightmare on Elm Street. We are all pretty into horror movies so it’s fun to bounce ideas around or sneak little horror homages into our designs.

  11. You guys also sell hats, hoodies and socks. Is there any other ideas you have in mind to grow your business if you can share. Maybe having emcees or artists wear your brand to promote your business?

Since we started local at Hip Hop and backyard Hardcore shows we have had various local artists wearing our brand since day one. Super cool, when we met Grieves at THOP Fest in 2018 we were able to gift him one of our first Dad Hats and he wore it for the remainder of his tour. We have a pretty solid Street Team and each year we grow a bit more. There’s always new ideas we have in mind, we just like randomly announcing new items or having Pop Up Only sales/gear.

  12. This is a hip hop blog so who is or are your favorite emcees/rappers of all time? Can be more than one.

It changes daily. At this moment in time heavy on rotation is Grieves, Murs, Jelly Roll and Tech N9ne and we always add some new artists to our playlists before/during/after events. It is so cool to do events with so many amazing local artists and over time we develop relationships with them so not only do we get to work alongside them we get great views of them on stage.

  13. This is also a horror blog, what would you say is your favorite scary movie if any and why?

I love all the Halloween movies but I really love Rob Zombies Halloween remakes.

  14. If you could be any horror villain who would you be and why?

Michael Myers because he’s tall but… probably Freddy Kruger because it’s cool to invade peoples dreams.

  15. Do you believe in the supernatural if so have you had any supernatural experiences you can share? Believe in it, yes, nothing significant that I can say I’ve experienced.
  16. What has been your companies greatest accomplishment so far and why is that?

Growing support, it’s crazy, it’s awesome!

  17. What advice would you give to someone who is thinking of starting a clothing business?

Be patient, do your research, be patient.

  18. What kind of legacy do you want to leave behind either creatively or on a personal level?

I don’t really think about that.. I guess I want to create art that has a great impact on people.

  19. Where do you see your clothing line in the next five years and what is your ultimate dream or goal?

Right now we are taking it day by day so I can’t say I have a set five year goal at this moment, just in the past year a lot has changed for us and will continue to, I’m just excited for whatever is next.

  20. Any platforms or people you would like to shout out?

There’s so many people who helped us get to this point. Everyone who rocks our gear, everyone who invites us to events, YOU! Thank you for being our first (official) interview. The list is endless. Shouts out to the New?Love Network, all of us local homies who have been through it all the past decade or so. Catch us all doing various things at local events! @zzay92 for always putting us on to new events and keeping us in mind. @60east and the entire THOP Fest team for amazing events where we met @theguttedcigar and @bricktoyaface who both constantly keep us in mind and are great people to run into anywhere. Lastly our HT Fam, thanks to everyone who is constantly supporting, re-posting, sharing posts, liking posts, providing feedback, offering time out to model gear for us, sewing, folding, cutting stickers, packaging orders, driving to the post office. I am one man, but I have a great team!
